Early Childhood Education

The early childhood education in day care combines care, education and upbringing.

In Finland all children under school age are entitled to receive municipal day care after the parental allowance.

The alternatives to day care are day care centres, family day care and group family day care. For children who are being cared for at home, activities are offered in play activities.

You can apply for a municipal day care electronically. Fill out an electronic form here. (In Finnish)

If you experience any problems with the application, please contact us. Feedback.

You can also apply for municipal day care by filling out the form “Application for day care” (in Finnish: Päivähoitohakemus). The form is available in day care centers, at the Education department and on the website of the City of Vaasa.

Vaasa allowance

Home care allowance is paid for children under 3 three years (KELA, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland). A parent can receive an additional Vaasa allowance, connected to the home care allowance paid by Kela, until 2 years old if the child is not in daycare.
