  • Barracks walking tour

    Tulkkikeskus Kasarmin alueella.

    The Vaasa barracks area is one of the best-preserved 19th-century wooden barracks areas in Finland. On this guided tour, you get to know St. Nicholas Church and the barracks area. After the tour, there is an opportunity to have coffee and donuts in canteen (at own expense).

  • Promenade in the Alkula Garden

  • Historical walking tour in Vaasa City centre

    Kappelinmäki graveyard dates back from 1782 and is one of Finland`s oldest cemeteries still in active use. Much of Vaasa`s ancient history lies buried in its soil.

  • Guided Walk at Strömsö

When something doesn’t work out Finns like to say “it didn’t go like in Strömsö.” In the Strömsö TV show, all the cooking, crafts and building projects are always a success. This trip gives you the opportunity to visit the set of this
    lifestyle show in Västervik in Vaasa.

    You will be guided on the premises of the old villa which today is a well-known TV studio for a very popular life style TV series. Also the garden is part of the program and well worth seeing.

  • Afternoon promenade in Old Vaasa

    Vaasa was founded by the Swedish King Charles IX in 1606. In 1852 a catastrophic fire destroyed the town. Some of the houses e.g. Wasastjerna residence and the old Court of Appeal survived the flames. We also visit the ancient site of the former castle and ruins of the medieval St. Maria church.

  • Ice swimming | Vaasan Pingviinit ry

    Hietasaari, Vaasa

    Vaasan Pingviinit ry. was founded in 1965 with the aim is to promote winter bath (“Polar bear”) as a hobby and connect people having this hobby.

    With the help of the City of Vaasa we could build an own sauna, which is situated at the beautiful and central place on the island Hietasaari next to the swimming beach. The sauna building was finished in 1999. The sauna was renewed in 2009 and regular repairs are done mainly based on volunteer work. 15.4.2024 we will start to build a new Sauna and dressing rooms.

    Penguins have never been more in Vaasa! We are now over 1300 members and we are happy to take new members at any time.

    • Single visit: You can pay one-time entrance/person at the door by phone. One-time entrance is available Monday-Saturday 10-18.
    • Testing winter bath free is possible Wednesday-Saturday 10-18 if you come to our sauna with a member. Your visit has to be agreed with a member of board.
    • Group visits during the winter swim period (November – March 2023-24) on weekdays from 11 am to 6 pm and on Saturdays from 11 am to 2 pm. Groups of visitors are limited to a maximum of eight. In addition, groups of up to ten people are allowed on Fridays from 8 pm to 10 pm. You can have three groups per week and a maximum of two groups per day. Group stay in sauna is max 1.5 hours. Members will be notified of group visits at least 8 days in advance. During the group visit, a penguin representative is present throughout.
