Järnefelt’s Korsholma is a grand-scale work which was premiered at the Vaasa National Songfest in 1894. At the same festival, there was a chap named Sibelius who conducted the premiere of his own Spring Song and was left disappointed, as the audience liked Järnefelt’s composition more. After this we will hear the violinist Cecilia Zilliacus in the Peteris Vasks’s unforgettably beautiful piece Vox Amoris. Lotta Wennäkoski’s Jong and the juggler Sakari Männistö raise the stakes even higher. The mind-blowing program draws to an end with Stravinsky’s witty Pulcinella Suite.
