General instructions for those exposed to the coronavirus

Quarantine is a necessary precaution in preventing further infections. Here are some general guidelines if you have been exposed to the coronavirus.

If you are quarantined, your doctor will write a quarantine order, which will also serve as a medical certificate if necessary. You must comply with quarantine regulations and be available by telephone at all times. Failure to comply with a quarantine order will result in a fine. When you are quarantined, you will receive more detailed instructions from healthcare professionals.

If you are of legal age, you are entitled to a communicable disease daily allowance to fully cover your loss of income during quarantine. You will receive the necessary quarantine decision by post. You can find more information and the application form on the Kela website.

If you are aged 16-17, no sickness allowance on account of an infectious disease will be paid.

If you are under 16-years-old, one of your parents will remain at home to supervise the quarantine decision. They will be paid an allowance on account of an infectious disease for loss of earnings.

If you experience symptoms of a respiratory infection during quarantine (fever, cough or shortness of breath), you can call 040 190 6142 on weekdays and weekends from 08.00-18.00  and 06 213 1310 at other times and arrange for a corona test and further instructions.

Other family members may travel to work and take part in hobbies in accordance with the general corona guidelines in force. If they develop symptoms of a respiratory infection (fever, cough, shortness of breath), then they need to call 040 190 6142 on weekdays and weekends from 08.00-18.00 for further instructions.

Stay indoors during quarantine. However, you can, for example, go outdoors in your own backyard, jog or walk your dog while avoiding contact with other people and wearing a face mask.

If you are a smoker, we highly recommend quitting smoking as smoking decreases your body’s ability to fight infection.

Keep in touch with friends and relatives electronically.

Inside your home, you can move without restriction. You are also allowed to cook and eat with your loved ones.

Be meticulous with hand washing and practice good coughing hygiene

You may not go shopping or run other errands. These things will have to be taken care of by your other family members or friends. If you live alone, you can order a shopping bag from stores that have a home delivery service.

Together we can fight this infection!
