Discontinuation of public exposure site notifications in Vaasa

Published: 5.10.2021

At its meeting on 4 October 2021, the City of Vaasa’s crisis management team decided to discontinue announcing public coronavirus exposure sites on the vaasa.fi website. There are very few exposure sites at present. However, Vaasa residents are still encouraged to take a coronavirus vaccination if they have not already done so. With regard to city facilities such as daycare centres and schools, we will continue to inform the public if residents, children or pupils have been exposed to the coronavirus.

The page Coronavirus exposure sites in Vaasa will remain visible for the time being to inform about the change in policy. The page will be removed later.

– We encourage all Vaasa residents over the age of 12 to take the coronavirus vaccine! The following drop-in coronavirus vaccination clinics, no appointment needed, will be held on Wednesday 6 October 16:00-18:00 at Gerby Health Station and on Saturday 9 October at 13:00-15:30 at Kirkkopuistikko health station, encourages the city’s chief physician Heikki Kaukoranta.

Although drop-in clinics are primarily intended for those coming for their first coronavirus vaccination, anybody wanting their second vaccination is also welcome to attend the clinic if at least 6 weeks have passed since their first vaccination.

Face mask recommendation continues until 31 October

– We wish to remind everyone about the mask recommendation, whereby it is recommended to always use a face mask until 31 October 2021 on public transport and in other public vehicles, such as taxis; in indoor work communities, if more than one person works or stays in the same space, and always in public indoor spaces and public events, including schools and educational institutions from the 6th grade of primary school, confirms Kaukoranta.

Nursing staff and other staff working in the social welfare and healthcare sector must always use mouth and nose protection or mouth and nose protection and visors, but not only visors.

Stay at home and take a corona test even if symptoms are mild

Stay at home even with mild symptoms of a respiratory infection. Typical symptoms include a sudden onset of fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, muscle aches, and loss of sense of smell and / or taste, and in some cases abdominal symptoms such as diarrhoea.

Make an online symptom assessment at omaolo.fi to discover if you have a coronavirus infection and follow the instructions provided by the service. Because the symptoms of a coronavirus infection are no different from the usual autumn flu, it is recommended to go for a corona test even with mild symptoms.

In Vaasa, corona testing takes place in the so-called barracks area (Kasarmialue), i.e. between Korsholmanpuistikko and Artellikuja, every day from 08:00 – 20:20. People can come for a test without a referral or an appointment. Questions about testing may be addressed to your local health station.

With regard to city facilities such as daycare centres and schools, we will continue to inform the public if residents, children or pupils have been exposed to the coronavirus.
