A different person to talk about

The Vaasa City Orchestra is erasing prefixes from its spring programme. Performers are no longer introduced through their gender but as top professionals.

The theme of the spring season, which begins in March, covers a wide and diverse range of talent, that will not be forced to fit into a pre-existing mould. Neither men nor women! Our concerts will be broadcast as free streaming events on Thursdays at 19:00.

The concerts can be viewed on the City Orchestra’s website and through Facebook pages. Concert recordings will remain available for two weeks.

At the Summer House

The Ostrobothnian Museum’s summer exhibition is called At the Summer House, which presents the cultural history of summer houses, summer settlements and cottages in the Vaasa region and Ostrobothnia from the end of the 18th century to the present day as a holistic cultural phenomenon.

Ostrobothnia was a pioneer in the creation of villa culture. The summer life of different eras is presented with the help of photographs, maps and artefacts, which are mainly from the Ostrobothnian Museum’s own collections. In addition to Vaasa, the exhibition highlights a selection of villa properties from Kokkola, Pietarsaari, Uusikaarlepyy and Kristiinankaupunki. The exhibition is produced by a large working group from Vaasa City Museums.

Night of the Arts turns 30!

The 30th Night of the Arts event was supposed to have already been celebrated last year, but due to exceptional circumstances, the celebration was postponed to this year.

The Night of the Arts started as a small happening in 1991. Today, this day for celebrating different art forms is a well-loved event in the Vaasa region. Once a year, about 35,000 people move around Vaasa to admire all what the city residents have created during the year.
Last year it was planned to hold a jubilee year to celebrate the Night of the Arts for the 30th time. However, the anniversary year was postponed due to exceptional circumstances. It has now been decided that the Night of the Arts officially turns 30 this year instead! However, this year’s programme still depends on the coronavirus situation. But a virtual programme will certainly be seen.

—  Let’s see what fun we can do together this year! The Night of the Arts shuttles between respect for traditions, trying the old and wondering about the new, says Leena Nyqvist.

The Night of the Arts will be held on 12 August 2021.
Changes are possible.
