The Vaskiluoto component master plan is now available for public inspection

Vaskiluoto, Sami Peltoniemi
The Vaskiluoto component master plan is available for public inspection from July 1 to August 30. A public event to discuss the plan will be held on 19 August at 18:00 in the Drama Hall of the Main Library (Kirjastonkatu 13).

While viewing the draft of the component master plan, you will also have an opportunity to participate in the preparation of the plan by leaving your opinion or comments on it. Based on the feedback received, the preparation of the plan will continue after August.

– At this point, all the feedback is important, because making changes is easier now than later in the planning process, when the planning has become well advanced," says General Planner Annika Birell.

Various surveys have been carried out for the design of the plan, such as a nature study, cultural history study and a traffic study. In addition, in connection with the participation and evaluation plan, online surveys were held between 5 November and 7 December 2018 for residents and businesses in the area, the answers from which were used in the preparation of the draft. More than 300 people responded to the surveys.

The Vaskiluoto recreation zone is important for Vaasa residents

Those responding to the online surveys wanted more housing on the island as well as the preservation of the current green area as a whole or in part. Respondents considered transport links and the preservation of Vaskiluoto recreational and outdoor opportunities as important. Those responding also suggested new roads and cycle paths, such as a cycle route around the island.

– Many respondents suggested that new housing or business premises could be built in the areas of the former Sugar Factory, the former Wasalandia and the former Fenno Hotel. For these areas, we now have suggestions for different kinds of housing and services in the component master plan, Birell explains.

The survey also asked about any additional services that would be wanted in the area.

– Those responding highlighted, among other things, kindergartens, cafés, grocery stores and pharmacies, if there were plenty of new residents in the area. There would thus be a clear demand for local services, Birell continues.

The draft of the Vaskiluoto component master plan 2040 is available from July 1 to August 30 at the Technical Services department (Kirkkopuistikko 26 A. 2nd floor) and on the City's website at www.vaasa.fi/en/Vaskiluoto-component-masterplan-2040. It is possible to leave an opinion on the draft for zoning by letter before August 30 (address: Planning, PO Box 2, 65101), or at the temporary visiting address (Vaasanpuistikko 17, 6th floor) or by e-mail to kaavoitus@vaasa.fi. In addition, you can comment on the draft plan via the link on the webpage of the plan.
