Jean Sibelius: Finlandia
Veli Kujala: “Auseil” Konsert för violin och orkester
Jean Sibelius: Symfoni nr 5, Es-dur, op. 82
Finlandia by Jean Sibelius was born out of the pressure during the years of oppression as part of Finland’s dreams of independence. Swans were an important inspiration for the Fifth Symphony, but Sibelius felt that he was struggling with God when composing the work. Both compositions were quickly considered as unsurpassed symbols of Finnishness. In the concert, new Finnish music is represented by violin concerto Auseil by Veli Kujala, who is inspired by clashes between different styles. The soloist in the work is Eriikka Maalismaa, who is a bold interpreter.
