Nykarleby Museum - Josef Herlers Museum is open
Article categories: Museums & Folklore
The museum's interior reflects a home of the 19th century, during Nykarleby's heyday as a maritime town.
The museum is housed in one of the few buildings that survived the town fire of 1858, in the former customshouse, whose oldest section dates back to the 17th century. The museum’s beautiful period interiors are furnished with historical artifacts and elegant furniture that reflect the home of a bourgeois family. The collection of costumes, furniture, paintings, sketches, photographs, and maritime historical material mainly dates from the 19th century, with some treasures from the late 18th century.
