New street and parking area to open in Hietalahti on Thursday 1 October

A new street, Pelikatu, and a new parking area will open near the Hietalahti sports halls, improving access to the area. The new street will also provide a safer route to the sports fields for pedestrians and cyclists.
Once Pelikatu opens, the access roads from Ruutikellarintie to the Silveria staff car park and the VPS junior hall car park will be closed. In future, both car parks can be accessed via Pelikatu.
Construction work to be completed in October
Finishing works will continue in the Pelikatu area over the coming weeks. Lighting will be installed, grassed areas will be seeded, and trees will be planted along the street. The remaining works are not expected to cause any significant disruption to access or use of the area. The new street and parking area are expected to be fully completed in October.
Parking area to open in phases
The new asphalted car park is located at the south-eastern end of Pelikatu, near the Kamratvallen football pitch. Parking is free of charge. The new car park will open in phases from 1 October. The section closest to Restaurant Silveria will be the first to open to the public. At that point, the car park will have 30 standard parking spaces and one accessible parking space.
For safety reasons, the section of the car park closest to Pelikatu will remain a construction site while finishing works are carried out. The full car park is expected to open by the end of October, providing a total of 60 standard parking spaces and two accessible parking spaces.
