Why not travel on banana peels?

Over 75% of Lifti’s bus journeys in Vaasa are powered by biogas, produced locally at Stormossen. Using biogas cuts CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared with fossil fuels! Every banana peel you put in the biowaste bin could become fuel for the very bus that takes you to school, work, or hobbies. Biogas also supports the circular economy by turning waste into energy. Every Lifti trip is a step towards a carbon-neutral Vaasa!

There are plenty of good reasons to hop on the banana bus! That means sorting your biowaste (and all other waste, of course) and choosing sustainable ways to get around.

  • Every Finn produces about 30 kg of biowaste per year.
  • In Vaasa, this adds up to about 2,000,000 kg of biowaste annually.
  • A single 45 km bus journey requires about 250 full bags of biowaste.
  • 1 bag of biowaste generates:
    • one minute in a hot shower
    • 100 phone charges
    • 1.4 km trip in a biogas-powered car.
