Article categories: Museums & Folklore

A glimpse into rural folk traditions about funerals.

As Hallowmas draws nearer, we will en October with a guided tour on mourning on Thursday 30th, at 15, 16 and 17 o’clock. The Farm House will be decorated according to old funerary custom, as we offer a glimpse into rural folk traditions in the 19th century and the turn of the 20th century.
People have always had a need to properly say goodbye to the deceased, and celebrate the time shared together. However, the customs have at times been quite different from what is common today. We will tell you about traditions surrounding the wake and the party following the burial, the importance of the cemetery, the need for a good bellringer, and more.
The mourning-guide will be offered three times, to avoid crowding, for 20 people at a time. We will again meet at the yellow info-stand, next to the parking area. Dress according to the weather, for we will be outdoors.
Welcome!
