FolkBop: I Fäälan and Fort Big Band

Folk music with a big band twist.
Fort big band is a band of professionals, semi-professionals and amateurs from Ostrobothnia, Finland. The band has done various musical projects for about 20 years. Leader of the band from the start and still today is Ralf Nyqvist. He is also a very skilled arranger of big band music.
The roots of I Fäälan are in the Southern Ostrobothnian music tradition. They are walking in the footsteps of the music and folk musicians from the old days. ”I fäälan” is dialect for ”in the footsteps”, related to ”fälas” meaning ”to travel”. I Fäälan has performed in Finland and Sweden at various festivals and events. In 2023, the trio released an album titled “THRE.” I Fäälan was chosen as the Group of the Year for 2024 at the Eläköön Folk Gala in Finland.
