Creamy chicken soup for schoolchildren. Games an activities. Participants are under the responsibility of their parents.
This summer, the Evangelical Lutheran parishes of Vaasa are launching a new initiative aimed at offering enjoyable activities and support to families with children during the summer holidays. A free soup lunch for schoolchildren will be organized twice in June in the Church Park next to Vaasa church.
The first lunch will be served on Wednesday, June 4, with pea soup on the menu. The next event will take place on Wednesday, June 11, when a creamy chicken soup will be served. On both days, lunch will be available from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, and the first 100 children will be accommodated. Participation is free of charge.
In addition to lunch, games and other fun activities will be arranged for the children. Staff from the Vaasa Parish Union and the Swedish Parish of Vaasa will be present, but children participate under the responsibility of their parents.
The initiative is driven by a desire to create a warm and community-building meeting place for children during the summer. The idea comes from Leila Roininen, Head of Funeral Services, who hopes the event will bring joy and ease everyday life for families.
“Our hope is that as many children and young people as possible will find their way to the event already this year. Hopefully, other public actors and organizations will also explore opportunities for summer and park meals for schoolchildren, which are already being arranged in many places,” says Leila Roininen.
The initiative will be evaluated after the summer, and if the response is positive, similar events may be organized on a larger scale next summer.
