MAJA JANTAR | EADEM MUTATA RESURGO
Article categories: Museums & Folklore
The exhibition examines the concept of change through various materials that have undergone transformations.
Eadem mutata resurgo – an alchemical principle that loosely translated means: “though I change, I remain the same.”
Maja Jantar is a multidisciplinary, multilingual, and polyphonic artist who lives in Isokyrö. Her artistic work consists of visual arts, poetry, performance, music, ceramics, and opera. She is interested in creating connections and encountering the more-than-human world through different media, focusing in particular on hybrid forms, poetry, ecology, history, rituals, and art as a ritual practice.
Jantari’s work is based on observing the surrounding nature and resonating with its rhythms. Since moving to Finland in 2022, she has been exploring the variations in light in her new home and developing a practice in which she “becomes part of the landscape” through observation, documentation, and participation. She uses local organic materials and clay in her works.
In this exhibition, Jantar explores the concept of change through materials that have undergone various transformations, as well as through poetic reflections. She wants to question the Western cultural notion of change as a continuous process of improvement. We have adopted the concept of change into our psyche in an effort to achieve maximum productivity and reach our full potential. But does every seed have to sprout, every flower have to bloom – and what happens on the dark side of growth?
