The internationally breakthrough guitar virtuoso Olli Soikkeli and Grammy-awarded pianist Marian Petrescu swing by the good-natured jazz tradition!
Starting from New York, guitarist Olli Soikkeli, who has an international career, became known as an interpreter of Django Reinhardt’s soulful music already in his twenties, and soon rose, despite his young age, to the ranks of the world’s most respected Gypsy jazz guitarists. Soikkeli’s repertoire has expanded from swing and Gypsy jazz to other styles from the 1940s to the 1960s, and in recent years Soikkeli has collaborated in various ensembles with Marian Petrescu of Romanian background. Soikkeli has performed alongside world stars at jazz clubs and festivals around Europe and the United States.
Petrescu, who has lived in Jyväskylä for almost 40 years, is an international-level piano virtuoso and Finland’s only Grammy-awarded jazz musician. Also known as the regular pianist of the Jazz Jkl Collective, Petrescu has performed with numerous legends such as Ray Charles, Toots Thielemans and Al Jarreau.
