Opening of the exhibitionThe Splendid Villa
Article categories: Museums & Folklore
Welcome to the opening ceremony of the summer exhibition on 3 June 2026 from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Carlsro Museum.
This year marks 130 years since the magnificent Carlsro Villa was built – and we are celebrating the anniversary with the summer exhibition “The Splendid villa”
The exhibition takes you back to the villa’s days of splendor as well as to the dramatic events that followed. Step into the world that surrounded one of Ostrobothnia’s richest man of the time, shipowner Alfred Carlström, who had his impressive villa constructed by the lakeshore. Carlsro hosted grand celebrations, guests were welcomed with generous hospitality, and the garden flourished with strawberry beds and proud peacocks roaming freely. The idyll came to an abrupt end in 1910, when a large embezzlement scandal was uncovered – an incident that plunged the entire Carlström family directly into financial ruin.
What really happened at Carlsro? How could one of the region’s wealthiest families fall so quickly? This summer’s anniversary exhibition tells the dramatic and fascinating story of Carlsro’s villa years – from luxury to collapse.
Welcome to experience history right where it took place!
