The exhibition examines the life of birds with delicacy and scientific precision. The works combine traditions of nature

The works in the exhibition opening in the Roos House combine traditions of nature photography, scientific research, and poetically delicate visual expression.

Sanna Kannisto is an internationally renowned photographic artist whose work is based on field work and research collaboration in nature – both in the rainforests of South America and at the Hanko bird station.

In Kannisto’s photographs, the birds are not anthropomorphized but portrayed as strong individuals – eye contact, details, postures, and gestures make each photograph a delicately tuned portrait.

The works in the exhibition offer a glimpse into the lives of birds, inviting the viewer to reflect more broadly on ecological questions. At the same time, the works challenge us to consider the relationship between the natural and the artificial, the constructed nature of the images, and the untamed essence of nature.
