Keep your home temperature moderate. The recommended temperature is no more than 20–21°C in living areas and 18–20°C in bedrooms. Each degree lower reduces the electricity used for heating.
Unplug chargers when you are not using them. Devices continue to use electricity in standby mode—just a little at a time, but surprisingly much over a year.
Check your sauna stones every year. Stones in good condition heat the sauna faster and save electricity. Crumbling stones slow down heating and increase consumption.
Keep your refrigerator energy-efficient: let food cool before putting it inside, avoid unnecessary door opening, don’t overfill, set the temperature between 2–6°C, and defrost the freezer regularly.
Use the convection setting in your oven. Preheating is not necessary, the temperature can be about 20°C lower, and you can bake several trays at once.
Remember that an electric sauna heater is often the single biggest consumer of electricity in a home. Shorter sauna sessions and moderate temperatures clearly save money.
Choose a microwave or air fryer for small portions. They use less electricity than an oven, especially when preparing small amounts of food.
Boil water in an electric kettle. It is more energy-efficient than using a pot on the stove.
Lower your washing temperature. When the temperature rises from 20°C to 40°C or from 40°C to 60°C, electricity consumption can even double. A lower temperature can cut consumption in half.
After heating, most energy is used for heating water. Shorter showers are a surprisingly effective way to save electricity.
