Art event at the Museum of Old Vaasa on 20 February

Published: 10.2.2026

On Friday 20 February from 16 to 20, the Museum of Old Vaasa will host an event showcasing a multidisciplinary art project, including a video screening in the museum and an exhibition in Loukon Tupa Cottage.

Artists Bekim Hasaj and Valentina Gelain will showcase their project What is Left in the Temple of Memory, which began last year, and share insights into the creative process behind it.

The project, centred on memory and time, draws on community research, video art, and site-specific installations. Built through community meetings and collaboration, the multidisciplinary project culminated last autumn with The Hidden Spots installation in a 100-year-old farmhouse in Ylimarkku (Swe. Övermark). The evening will feature previously unseen documentary and art video footage. A selection of original interactive pieces will also be presented in Loukon Tupa Cottage, situated in the museum’s grounds. The farmhouse associated with the art project will reopen in Ylimarkku this summer.

The artists will also talk about their plans for Palosaari’s former industrial area. Ilkka Nyqvist, Cultural Producer for the City of Vaasa, will be present to discuss the city’s new Cultural Planning programme.

The lecture is free and open to all. The event will be held on the second floor of the Museum of Old Vaasa, with the exhibition presented in Loukon Tupa Cottage (Kauppiaankatu 10). The museum’s other areas and the permanent exhibition will be closed to the public during the event. Please note that the programme may change in the event of cold weather.

The event is organised by Vaasa Museums and Black Box Genesis, in partnership with City of Vaasa’s Cultural Services, Film Centre Botnia, and Stefan Backas. The event has received support from Veljekset Gröndahlin Säätiö Foundation.
