Children from Malmöntalo Daycare planted trees in the Onkilahti Activity Park

On Monday 13 October, children from Malmöntalo Daycare planted trees in the Onkilahti Activity Park. This was made possible by a €500 donation from Wasa Sinfonietta in the spring.
Wasa Sinfonietta organised a ‘Save the Trees’ charity concert on 18 May and donated the proceeds to the city’s Green Spaces Team for the purchase of tree saplings. On Monday 13 October, children from Malmöntalo Daycare helped plant the saplings, bought with Wasa Sinfonietta’s donation, in Onkilahti Activity Park.
The tree-planting event, held on a sunny autumn day, began with a musical performance by Wasa Sinfonietta, after which the children planted the saplings with adult assistance. During the day, the children from Malmöntalo Daycare learned many things, including what trees need to grow, how to plant them, and how the small saplings will one day grow into large trees. Among the trees planted in the Onkilahti Activity Park were Manchurian cherries, weeping willows and a Douglas fir.
The planting day was organised in collaboration with the City of Vaasa’s Green Spaces Team, Wasa Sinfonietta and Malmöntalo Daycare. The newly planted trees will add to the greenery of Onkilahti Park and provide shelter and enjoyment for the people of Vaasa for decades to come.
