Christmas season opening hours and programme at Vaasa Museums – free admission 19.12

Vaasa Museums are offering free admission to exhibitions on 19 December 2025, along with other special holiday programme. Children’s Christmas will be celebrated in Terranova at the Ostrobothnian Museum. The museums will have special opening hours during the Christmas period.
Current exhibitions:
- Tikanoja Art Museum: I am not afraid – Finnish contemporary illustrators, and Serene moments and vibrant colours
- Ostrobothnian Museum: Lay Of(f) The Land and Creatures of Night and Day as well as the permanent exhibitions Treasures from near and beyond the seas, Vaasa400 and the Terranova basic natural history exhibition
- Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art: Jan Olof Mallander – Extended Play (on display until 13 December)
Children’s Christmas on 19 December at Terranova
Children’s Christmas event will be held at Terranova in the Ostrobothnian Museum on Friday 19 December, at 14 in Swedish and 15 in Finnish. The programme includes a museum elf guiding children on an adventure to find porridge ingredients and explore animal tracks and the wintery landscape.
The event is aimed at children aged 3–10 and their families, and admission is free. On the same day, visitors can also explore the other exhibitions at the Ostrobothnian Museum and the Tikanoja Art Museum free of charge.
Special opening hours at the museums over Christmas
The museums will be closed from 22 December 2025 until 1 January 2026. However, during the Christmas holidays, the Ostrobothnian Museum will be open on 27–28 December, and the Tikanoja Art Museum on 27 December, following their normal opening hours.
Before Christmas, admission to the Ostrobothnian Museum and the Tikanoja Art Museum is free on 19 December 2025. Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art will be closed for exhibition changes from 14 December 2025 to 23 January 2026.
Concerts at the Tikanoja Art Museum
On Saturday 27 December, the Tikanoja Art Museum will host a Year-End Musical Salon concert at 12, 14 and 16. The concert will feature beautiful melodies inspired by the Tikanoja collection.
Violinist Maano Männi will be joined by pianist Irina Zahharenkova, and the versatile duo will perform timeless works by Chopin, Debussy, Satie, Fauré, Kreisler and Pärt in the museum’s intimate setting.
Tickets for the concert can be purchased from Netticket and at the museum before the performance. The concert will last approximately 70 minutes.
