Eco Bonus encourages Vaasa residents to take environmental action – applications now open!
Published: 1.4.2026
To mark Vaasa’s Green Leaf year, associations and resident communities operating in Vaasa can apply for an Eco Bonus of €100–€1,000 for an event, campaign, small investment or other action that supports the themes of the Green Leaf year.
The application period for the Eco Bonus runs from 1 to 26 April 2026, and applications must be submitted at vaasa.fi/en/ecobonus.
The first Eco Bonus application round, organised in November–December 2025, was very popular, and due to strong interest the call will now be reopened in April 2026.
– Eco Bonus activities will be visible to residents through various events and campaigns throughout the year. We want to give as many communities as possible the opportunity to take part in making concrete environmental actions,” says Eva Bligt‑Lindén from the City of Vaasa.
The call is open to all, but priority will be given to applicants who did not receive Eco Bonus funding in the first round.
How to apply for the Eco Bonus
Eco Bonus funding can be applied for by associations and resident communities. Applications must therefore be submitted in the name of an organisation or group that has a bank account, so that the grant can be paid. The application should include an idea and an estimated budget (€100–€1,000) that can be implemented with the requested sum.
The selection criteria emphasise sustainability and environmental impact. The projects must support green values such as biodiversity, energy efficiency and the circular economy. The aim is also to strengthen community spirit and inspire Vaasa residents of all ages to help make their city more pleasant and greener.
Special attention will be paid to ensuring that as many Vaasa residents as possible can take part in the activities. Applications will also be assessed based on how the ideas can be communicated, for example via the Vaasa region events calendar or through the communities’ own communication channels.
The City of Vaasa will contact all Eco Bonus recipients by email no later than 31 May.

Building the Green Leaf year together
The impact of the Green Leaf year is created together through the ideas and everyday actions of residents, associations and communities. Every Vaasa resident can take part in building a more sustainable future, whether by organising an event, saving energy or promoting circular economy practices.
Vaasa has been named a European Green Leaf City for 2026. The European Commission awards this recognition annually to cities that promote sustainable development and work systematically for the environment and climate.
