Järvikatu remains closed until 31 January
Published: 14.1.2026
Järvikatu will remain closed between Pitkäkatu and Kirkkopuistikko until the end of January. A section of Järvikatu has been closed since autumn due to the demolition of a nearby industrial building.
The walls of the old industrial building were demolished by the end of 2025. At the beginning of 2026, work began at the site to dismantle structures deep below ground near Järvikatu.
The street area is needed as a safety zone for the demolition work. For general safety reasons, the street area cannot yet be opened to traffic.
The closed sections include:
- Both lanes of Järvikatu between Pitkäkatu and Kirkkopuistikko
- The cycle path alongside Järvikatu between Pitkäkatu and Kirkkopuistikko
- The pavement along Pitkäkatu between Järvikatu and Kalastajankatu
- Parking on Pitkäkatu will be also temporarily prohibited near the demolition site.
Access to the parking area at the small boat harbour along Järvikatu will be available from the direction of Kirkkopuistikko.
Work is expected to continue until 31 January 2026. During this phase, it will be assessed whether the road section can be reopened to traffic at all.
Public transport will continue to be disrupted.
Lifti line 4V will continue to follow an alternative route during the works.
