Merikaarto to get new daycare premises in January 2026
Published: 30.5.2025
New early childhood education and care (ECEC) premises will be built near Merikaarto School in Vaasa this year. The new daycare unit will be completed in December and open for early childhood education and care in early January 2026.
The new daycare building in Merikaarto will be two storeys high and constructed from modular units. The building will have space for four child groups.
– The entire Pikkuonni daycare, which currently has three groups, will move to the new premises. The new building will have space for four groups, allowing for one additional group to be added, says Maria Karvonen, Service Manager for Early Childhood Education and Care.
Modular construction enables faster completion
The new daycare unit will be built on a vacant site in front of the Merikaarto school building.
Based on the bids received, Koskirent Oy was selected as the supplier of the modular units in March 2025. The main advantage of modular construction is its speed.
– The current ECEC facilities in Merikaarto no longer meet modern standards, so it’s good that the new premises will be available on a fast schedule, says Karvonen.
The modular building will be leased for use in early childhood education and care from 15 December 2025 to 30 June 2031. There is also a two-year option to extend the lease period.
