New terms for e-scooter rental in Vaasa now approved
Published: 26.11.2025
Vaasa’s Urban Environment Board has approved the new terms and conditions for commercial e-scooter rental permits. There were no major changes to the terms displayed to the public in October. The new terms will come into effect on 1 January 2026.
The proposal for the new permit terms was on public display from 7 to 21 October. The city received 14 comments in response, which led to minor changes in the terms. For example, the areas in front of fire stations were added to the no-parking zones at the request of the Rescue Department of Ostrobothnia. In addition, Vikinga and Mansikkasaari were removed from the no-parking zones, and a few parking spaces were added or relocated in the city centre and Palosaari.
Commercial e-scooter rental operations in Vaasa will require a micromobility permit from the city starting 1 January 2026. To obtain a permit, companies renting out e-scooters must comply with the permit terms and conditions.
The aim of the terms is to improve the safety of e-scooter use, reduce costs arising from accidents, and lessen the strain on healthcare services. The aim of the parking restrictions is to ensure that movement around the city remains accessible to everyone.
