Second floor of the Main Library partially closed 1–13 September 2025

Published: 1.9.2025

The second floor collections of the Vaasa Main Library will be reorganised and most of the second floor will be closed from 1 to 13 September 2025. The current subject-based division will be discontinued, and books will instead be shelved in numerical order, as in other Finnish libraries. The department will also be renamed the Adult Section.

How this will affect library users:

  • Most of the second floor will be closed from 1 to 13 September 2025, during which time there will be no customer service or telephone support on that floor.
  • Books can still be reserved, and they will be delivered twice a day to the reservation shelf in the lobby or to branch libraries for collection.
  • Reading spaces remain available in Venny, which is accessible by lift next to the News Section.
  • The Teema art gallery as well as the Hanken and University of Helsinki collections are accessible via the lift next to the News Section.
  • New books will be made available for borrowing in the lobby on the first floor as they are processed.
  • The group space Dialogi cannot be reserved but is available when not in use.
