Several walking groups available for seniors in Vaasa
Published: 19.9.2025
There are six walking groups for seniors across Vaasa. All six groups are open to everyone and free of charge.
Group walks provide an easy and enjoyable way to increase everyday activity and meet other people. Participants do not need to register in advance or attend every walk.
City Centre
Wednesdays at 12.30 – Vaasan Seniorit ry’s group walks at a gentle pace. The walks start in front of the Orthodox Church (Nikolainkuja). The walk is approximately 4 km, followed by about 20 minutes of stretching.
Thursdays at 10 – Vasa Svenska Pensionärsförening VIPS walking group, with or without poles. The walks start at Culture House Fanny (Kirkkopuistikko 34). If needed, the group can be divided into slower and faster walkers. The group is Swedish-speaking.
Sundays at 10 – Vaasan Kävelyklubi ry’s group walks. The 5 km and 10 km walks start at the Market Square and follow different routes around Vaasa. The longer walk is at a brisk pace, while the shorter walk is more relaxed. The walks are usually followed by a shared coffee break, paid for individually.
Hietalahti
Wednesdays from 10–11 – self-guided walking group in Hietalahdenpuisto Park. The group meets at the Brage Open-Air Museum parking lot (Bragenkuja 1). Participants are welcome to bring their own walking poles. The walk follows the participants’ pace, and groups may be divided if needed. The last outdoor walk of the season is on 15 October.
Starting 22 October, the group moves indoors to Vaasan Sähkö Arena (Rinnakkaistie 1). Participants are welcome to join the indoor walks even if they haven’t previously participated in the walking groups. The walk starts from the arena’s ground-floor lobby, with entry under the front stairs. Following the walk, you can enjoy a lunch at the arena’s restaurant, paid for individually. The group will take a Christmas break from 17 December to 7 January and resume for the spring season from 14 January to 25 March.
Studded shoes are not allowed inside the arena. Participants can use the arena’s changing rooms and change shoes on site.
Huutoniemi
Mondays from 10–11 – self-guided walking group. The walks start in front of K-Supermarket Huutoniemi (Kuninkaantie 69). The walking pace is gentle, and participants using a walker are welcome.
