The development of the Konepaja area is moving forward: A section of Järvikatu was permanently closed on 1 February

Järvikatu has been temporarily closed since 1 September 2025 due to the demolition of a nearby industrial building. The permanent closure continues the traffic arrangements that have been in place since autumn. Access to the small boat harbour’s parking area from the direction of Kirkkopuistikko will be maintained. The closure does not affect cyclists or pedestrians, who will continue to have access as at present.

Parking was allowed again from 1 February on the side of Pitkäkatu where the demolished building stood. At the same time, the previously closed pavement on Pitkäkatu was reopened.

Maintenance on the section of Järvikatu from the bend to Pitkäkatu ended on 1 February, and this part of the street will no longer be opened to traffic.

New street in 2027

Järvikatu was permanently closed due to ongoing demolition work nearby. In addition, under the new local plan for the Konepaja area in Vöyrinkaupunki, the closed street section has been reserved for the construction of a new residential area and the preparatory works leading up to it. The local plan was approved last spring (Finnish and Swedish only).

The new local plan provides for a new street, Porttikatu, to replace the section of Järvikatu that will be removed. The new street will run straight to Pitkäkatu, without the bend towards Onkilahdenpuisto Park. Construction of Porttikatu is scheduled to begin in 2027.

Lifti will continue to follow the current route

The current diversion for line 4V of the Lifti public transport service will remain in place until Porttikatu has been constructed and opened. The information has been updated in the route planner.
