The Finnish Air Force is training near the airport – temporary restrictions on movement in place 21–26 September

The Air Force’s Protective Fence 25 exercise will cause temporary traffic and movement restrictions in the area around Vaasa Airport from 21 to 26 September 2025. This is the largest flight training exercise in Finland in autumn 2025.The exercise will involve flight activity between 22 and 26 September from 9 to 23 daily. No flights will take place at night.
The exercise will be organised so as to minimise inconvenience to the public.
The movement restrictions will apply to roads and areas around the airport, where access may be temporarily limited to ensure safety. Barriers or tape will be used to restrict access, and traffic control will be in place in certain areas.
The Finnish Defence Forces do not have the right to use residential buildings, their associated yards and gardens, uncultivated farmland, or agricultural and forestry test fields in the area.
The exercise may affect the following roads: Bockholmintie, Itäinen Runsorintie, Kivimetsäntie, Laajametsäntie, Lentokentäntie, Lentolinja, Nosturikatu, Rekkakatu, Storgårdintie, Söderlandintie and Tuotantotie. The roads in question are shown on the map below.
