The Ostrobothnian Museum is adding new works to the Inkeri Julkunen and other naivists exhibition

Published: 25.8.2025

The Ostrobothnian Museum is currently hosting the exhibition Inkeri Julkunen and other naivists, which offers a comprehensive look at the work of Vaasa-born naive artist Inkeri Julkunen (1935–2015). The exhibition is receiving a welcome addition with the inclusion of three new pieces found in private collections.

The exhibition was originally designed with the possibility of discovering new works in mind – and this unexpectedly came true over the summer. Three new paintings by Inkeri Julkunen will be on loan for the exhibition: Kesäpäivä (‘Summer day’ 1991), Tyttö keinussa (‘Girl in a swing’ 1992) and Talvinen puisto (‘Wintry park’ 1989). The works have been installed on 22 August 2025 and will be on public display as part of the exhibition immediately thereafter.

The exhibition opened at the beginning of June and brings together around 70 works by Julkunen and her naivist contemporaries. Although many sought-after works are still missing, the museum welcomes every new addition with delight. The discovery of new works is valuable both for the public and for research.

The museum continues its survey work and hopes to receive further leads about new paintings. If you have any information about Julkunen’s works, please contact Museum Curator Janna Sirén, Vaasa Museums, (tel. 0405303285, janna.siren@vaasa.fi).

The exhibition will be on display at the Ostrobothnian Museum until 19 October 2025.
