THE PUDDLE – Children’s Culture Weeks return this October

Published: 11.9.2025

The Puddle – Children’s Culture Weeks, organised by the City of Vaasa’s Culture and Library Services, will once again offer a wide range of fun activities and memorable experiences for families throughout October.

The programme offers plenty of activities for early childhood education groups, schools and families alike, including workshops, autumn celebrations, children’s art exhibitions, concerts, story times, museum tours, den-building and much more. Events will be organised across the city, with most activities free of charge.

The Puddle kicks off with an opening event on Tuesday, 1 October, from 17–20. Orffit children’s music orchestra will perform in the Draama Room at the Main Library at 18. There are plenty of activities both inside and outside the library, including the Ilon pisarat (Drops of joy) community artwork by TaiKon, the Puddle board game, or a Moomins-themed treasure hunt. Participants can also enjoy fun outdoor games and Puddle polka.

Studio Puddle opens in the library’s Matilda multipurpose space, featuring artworks and decorations by Onkilahti Comprehensive School, Vaasa Christian School, and the summer artists of the Youth Services. At Studio Puddle, visitors can also create art independently.

Before the official opening, the Puddle Sneak Peek will be led by the museum’s mascot, the ermine. Cuddly toy tours will be held at the Ostrobothnian Museum at 14 (in Swedish) and 15 (in Finnish).

Art Splashes – curated cultural experiences for families

Art Splashes, carefully selected by the Puddle’s curators, offer memorable cultural experiences for families. At the same time, they provide an opportunity for different groups and organisations to showcase their expertise. All Art Splashes are free, family-friendly events.

In the spring, the language immersion class 2 kiC at Länsimetsä School, together with cultural educator Sanna Asikainen, selected three of the most interesting ideas, which received and implementation grant through the city’s Cultural Services.

The 2025 Art Splashes include Goldfish in the Puddle, a craft and painting event organised by Vaasa 4H on Saturday, 4 October, from 10–13 in the Main Library’s Draama Room. The Puddle Rhythms Art Splash on Saturday, 11 October, from 10–14, will feature the Ylimääräiset Asemamiehet children’s orchestra, followed by dance workshops for all ages led by Dance School Kipinä in the Draama Room.
