The museum will close following the popular Eero Järnefelt exhibition, which ends on Saturday, 24 May.

Over the summer, the Tikanoja Art Museum will undergo façade and roof renovations, as well as restoration of the interior spaces.

– The Tikanoja Art Museum has required repairs for some time, and we have now been able to arrange for the necessary work to be carried out in a way that also addresses the previously agreed closure requirements, which were imposed for cost-saving reasons. It is unfortunate that the museum will be closed over the summer, but on the other hand, the preservation of heritage buildings must be ensured, and certain repairs inevitably impose limitations on the museum’s operations, says Elina Bonelius, Museum Director.

As a reward for museum-goers’ patience, Bonelius promises that the Tikanoja Art Museum will be even more splendid after the renovation. The museum will reopen in the autumn season on 27 September, showcasing new exhibitions, including Finnish contemporary illustration and works from the Tikanoja collection.

Other museums will remain open throughout the summer with new exhibitions

The Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art, the Ostrobothnian Museum, and the Museum of Old Vaasa will remain open throughout the summer, featuring new exhibitions. Alongside Ulrika Ferm’s solo exhibition Weather[ing], the Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art will host the group exhibition Interferences, featuring artists with past or current connections to the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of the Arts Helsinki. In addition to its permanent exhibitions, the Ostrobothnian Museum will feature an exhibition of Inkeri Julkunen‘s naïve art from 7 June to 19 October.

The Museum of Old Vaasa will open on 4 June and remain open until the end of August. This summer, the museum will also present a small-scale archaeological exhibition on the Korsholm ramparts, which conceal finds dating from the Middle Ages to the late 18th century.

The Ostrobothnian Museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday, and the other museums from Wednesday to Saturday, from 10 to 17. Admission to the Museum of Old Vaasa is free.

During the autumn season, the museums will also be closed for longer periods than usual due to cost-saving measures. The breaks will be used to change exhibitions. The Ostrobothnian Museum will be closed from 20 October to 30 November, while the Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art will remain closed until the end of the year.
