Vaasa donates €60,000 to Ukraine
Published: 16.2.2026
The City of Vaasa is donating €60,000 to support Ukraine. The donation aims to support urgent aid deliveries in Ukraine and the purchase of generators in areas where electricity and energy supply have been disrupted.
The donation was approved by the City Board at its meeting on 16 February 2026.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has continued for four years, and this winter’s unusually harsh conditions have added to the hardships faced by civilians.
– Ongoing attacks on energy infrastructure have left millions of people without heating, water, and electricity. In January, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a state of emergency for the energy sector, highlighting the severity of the situation, says Mayor Tomas Häyry.
Donation to purchase generators and support aid deliveries
Ukraine’s Ambassador to Finland, Mykhailo Vydoinyk, visited Vaasa on 21–22 January, bringing with him an up-to-date overview of Ukraine’s critical situation.
– During his visit, the ambassador emphasised the urgent need for generators in areas where the power grid has been badly damaged, as well as the pressing need for additional funding to organise aid deliveries, says Susanna Slotte-Kock, External Relations Officer for the City of Vaasa.
The City of Vaasa’s €60,000 donation will be directed to urgent aid deliveries to Ukraine, organised through Kalyna ry. The donation will fund the purchase of generators and help cover logistics costs, enabling aid to be delivered quickly to the areas that need it most.
Vaasa has supported Ukraine throughout the war
Vaasa has supported Ukraine throughout the war through donations, fundraising, cultural events, and by maintaining active cooperation with its sister city, Kherson.
The City of Vaasa has also sent supplies to Ukraine, taken part in aid projects organised by Kalyna ry, and donated a van for use in aid deliveries.
