Published: 10.12.2025
Vaasa will celebrate the New Year in style on Tuesday 31 December 2025, with a laser light and music show in front of the City Hall. On New Year’s Eve, the City Hall will be illuminated with colourful lighting, repeated every 30 minutes from 18 to 21.30.
The spectacular laser light and music show lasts about ten minutes and will be repeated eight times during the evening, every 30 minutes: at 18.00, 18.30, 19.00, 19.30, 20.00, 20.30, 21.00 and 21.30. The show in front of Vaasa City Hall is free of charge.
– This year, we are trying out a new event setting and concept. We want to schedule the event so that as many residents of Vaasa as possible can join in the celebrations, says Sanna Bondas, Director of Culture and Library Services.
The music for the show is written and performed by songwriter, musician and producer Janne Hyöty, violinist and composer Elisa Järvelä, and entertainment producer, songwriter, artist and musician Niklas Rosström. The music accompanying the light show will feature Elisa Violinist and Five O Land.
The audience can also enjoy warm treats, with jam-filled doughnuts and mulled wine, or glogg, available for purchase. The event will be opened at 18.00 by Jasmin Granlund, Chair of Vaasa City Board.
Due to the New Year’s event, Senaatinkatu will be closed from 10 on Tuesday morning, 30 December, and will reopen at 22 on Wednesday, 31 December.
An eco-friendly way to celebrate the New Year
Vaasa continues last year’s environmentally friendly approach to welcoming the New Year without fireworks. The New Year also marks the start of the European Green Leaf 2026 year, an accolade awarded by the European Commission in recognition of Vaasa’s efforts to promote sustainable development and its committed work for the environment.
Over the coming year, Vaasa will host events and invite residents to take concrete actions for the environment.
– At the New Year’s event, people will have the opportunity to make environmental pledges. Everyone in Vaasa can take part, and even the smallest actions make a difference, reminds Suvi Aho, Strategy Manager.
The light and music show is being produced in collaboration by Frontline Audio and Vaasa’s Culture and Library Services.
