Vaasa’s beaches met all quality standards

Published: 18.7.2025

The latest water samples have been taken on 14 July 2025 from 13 public beaches: Ahvensaari, Hietasaari, Kustaanlinna, Mansikkasaari, Strömsö, Isolahti, Kronvik, Paratiisisaari, Viikinga, the southern and northern shores of Merikaarto, Top Camping’s campsite, and Säivänkangas in Laihia.

All tested beaches met the quality standards. A small amount of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) was observed at Ahvensaari on the day of sampling. However, no algae were observed the following day. Water temperatures ranged between 19.3°C and 23.9°C.

According to the quality standards set by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, intestinal enterococci must remain below 200 CFU/100 ml, and Escherichia coli below 500 MPN/100 ml in coastal bathing waters. Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) must not be visually detected in the water or on the beach.

Bathing water quality is monitored throughout the summer

In Vaasa and Laihia, the water quality of 13 beaches is monitored during the bathing season, from 15 June to 31 August 2025. The next sampling date is 4 August.

You can report bathing water quality issues via the Environmental Health Service’s online reporting service at https://ilppa.fi/kuluttajan-ilmoitukset (in Finnish and Swedish). You can report:

  • any illness or other reaction you suspect was caused by the bathing water
  • any issue or defect you have noticed in the bathing water.
