At the orchestra’s traditional Vappu concert, the Vaasa-based singer and actress Sarah Nedergård will perform, with the excellent conductor Martin Segerstråle. In addition to traditional orchestral pieces, the program features musical numbers from Evita, West Side Story, My Fair Lady, and more. The festive start to the Labor day celebrations begins at the City Hall, traditionally at 7 p.m., just after the Topelius statue has received its student cap.

Martin Segerstråle, conductor
Martin Segerstråle is a versatile conductor and pianist who holds degrees from the Sibelius Academy and the Royal Academy of Music in London.
He has worked as a conductor and pianist at, among others, the Finnish National Opera, the Swedish Theatre in Helsinki, and the theatres in Tampere.
He is also a respected choir conductor and a frequently engaged accompanist, and he has worked with several of Finland’s leading opera singers.
Sarah Nedergård, soprano
Soprano Sarah Nedergård is from Vaasa and has been working professionally in musical theatre and theatre since 2012 across Finland, performing in both Swedish and Finnish.
Sarah has appeared in roles such as Maria (West Side Story, The Sound of Music), Ariel in The Little Mermaid, Cosette in Les Misérables, and Piaf.
For audiences in Vaasa, she is known from Vaasa City Theatre and Wasa Teater, where she has worked as a freelance performer since 2021.
