Farafina: Exhibition on textile dyeing in West Africa 16.09-14.10

In West Africa, traditional crafts are still very much alive: cotton is grown and spun, and textiles are woven, sewn and dyed, although cheap Chinese imports increasingly threaten local production. Indigo and mud dyeing have centuries-old traditions in the region. The exhibition presents dyed everyday textiles from Mali, Mauritania and Guinea. Farafina means Africa in Bamana, a language spoken by around 20 million people. Velcome to the opening Wednesday 16/9, 6-8 pm.
