Create a game inspired by Finnish folklore and Ostrobothnian history in Jakobstad. Free, beginner-friendly game jam.

Welcome to Finnish Folk Game Jam 2026 – Jakobstad, a 3-day creative event where game developers, artists, musicians, writers, historians, and curious beginners come together to create games inspired by Finnish folklore and local Ostrobothnian history.

This is not just a traditional game jam. In Jakobstad, the event is organised in collaboration with the Malm Museum, giving participants the chance to explore authentic local stories, songs, myths, and historical material as inspiration for their projects. Selected games may also have the opportunity to be showcased in the museum after the event.

You are welcome whether you are an experienced developer or trying a game jam for the first time. Teams are formed on-site, so you can join with friends or come on your own and find a team during the event. Any game engine or creative tools are allowed.

The jam takes place at Novia, Köpmansgatan 10, Jakobstad, from Friday 22 May to Sunday 24 May 2026. The venue opens on Friday at 16:30, and the official jam begins after a guided Malm Museum visit for inspiration. The event continues through the weekend and ends on Sunday at 18:00.

Participants are asked to bring their own computer, tablet, or instruments. Desks, electricity, and Wi-Fi are provided. Snacks and refreshments are available throughout the event, and lunch plus Saturday pizza dinner are included.

An optional pre-lecture on Discord will also be arranged before the event for those who want extra inspiration and background on folklore, ethics, and theme-related ideas.

Participation is free of charge, but registration is required. More details and registration can be found on Eventbrite.
