Article categories: Music
Latin jazz with a tango nuevo twist.
Antti Heerman, violin
Henrik Sandås, bandoneon
Olli Rantala, contrabass
Heerman-Sandås-Rantala is a new, unique Finnish chamber jazz trio that takes its listeners on a fast-paced musical journey to the magical depths of latin jazz and tango nuevo, in the footsteps of e.g. Egberto Gismonti, Dino Saluzzi and Hermeto Pascoal. It will be an evening filled with charmingly colorful, imaginative and expressive music! The group’s repertoire is a mix the members’ own favorite works, re-arranged for this rare ensemble. The musical spectrum is wide, ranging from “Armando’s Rhumba” and “Chorinho” by Chick Corea and Lyle Mays to touching versions of classics such as “Adios Nonino” by Astor Piazzolla and “Alfonsina y el Mar” by Felix Luna and Ariel Ramirez.
”In FREVO!’s chamber music, essential things are a lively swing, a great love of melody, inspired improvisations by three virtuosos, sensitive and emotional overall sound. These three masters are very strong individually, but especially together.”
