Article categories: Literature Music Theatre

Celebrate with us World Children's Day by attending Spektakeldagen 21 of November in Campus Allegro!

World Children’s Day is celebrated annually in Finland and around the world on 20 November to mark the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Through Spektakeldagen, the City of Jakobstad celebrates World Children’s Day and every child’s right to play, art and culture.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, 21 November, at Campus Allegro from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All activities and programme events are free of charge, giving all children and families an opportunity to enjoy creativity and culture.

Spektakeldagen began in 2015 on the initiative of the Balatako visual arts programme. Since 2023, the event has been organised by the City of Jakobstad’s Culture and Leisure Services. This year, Spektakeldagen celebrates the Convention on the Rights of the Child under the theme Midnight Magic! Both children and adults are fascinated by the darkness of night, which creates cosy moments illuminated by light while also inspiring exciting fantasies about what might be hidden in the dark.

Activities are organised by Jakobstad Library and Museum, the Finnish and Swedish Adult Education Institutes, Cultural Services, Sports Services, Youth Services, and Balatako together with the Theatre and Dance Programme of Wava Institute. The programme includes creative workshops and crafts, a Good Night-themed reading corner and orienteering activities. UNICEF will also participate in the event.

In Black Box, audiences can enjoy LED dance performances by both the Wava Institute Dance Programme and Moving Decos dancegroup from Seinäjoki. In White Box, visitors can experience a VR artwork by visual artist Leena Jääskeläinen, while Balatako’s autumn exhibition will be displayed around Rotunda.

At 11 a.m., children and families are invited to the Schauman Hall to enjoy the RUSK Festival family concert “Hello Future!”. During this intimate concert, short pieces of classical music will be performed by the Norwegian string quartet Vertavo.
