Exebision 2026 - Details continue about Mårten Lassus

Throughout the summer of 2026, several museums in Ostrobothnia will continue to showcase works by their own local folk artists. Utsmyckat (“Decorated”) is a collaborative project where each museum’s exhibition offers something unique!

Oravais Historiska highlights the folk painter, church gilder, stone polisher, and district judge Mårten Lassus from Karvat. A polymath beyond compare, Lassus had a significant impact on folk painting in the area and did much to preserve local history and folk legends.

Fittingly, the exhibition is located in the Bengtersgobbin cabin at the Fänrik Stål Center—a building that Lassus himself had built. This year, the exhibition is consolidated into one of the cabin’s rooms. A new addition for this year is Mårten Lassus’s tool chest, which was recently donated to the museum.
