With Paint Bricks, Traditional decorative painting and fireplaces in Västerbotten and Ostrobothnia
Article categories: Museums & Folklore
The exhibition will be opened on June 13 at 1:00 PM by Professor Emeritus Nils-Erik Villstrand.
The exhibition showcases vibrant colors and beautiful stencil painting that have long been hidden within the walls on both sides of the Gulf of Bothnia. The fireplace is highlighted as the heart of the home. It was only when the chimney was introduced that it became possible to begin decorating the interiors of our cottages.
The exhibition is the result of an inventory of decorative painted interiors and fireplaces in Österbotten and Västerbotten in Sweden. In Ostrobothnia, the inventory has focused on the Swedish-speaking rural areas between Närpes and Nykarleby. In Västerbotten, the inventory was conducted earlier and covers the entire region.
The exhibition is open until 15 August 2026.
The excibition is a result of the Leader-projects:
“Österbottniskt byggnadsarv – ett samarbetsprojekt med Västerbotten” (Stundars)
and ”Gamla gårdar och kulturarv – en resurs för Västerbotten” (Vindeln Local Heritage Museum, Västerbotten Museum and Skellefteå Museum).
The project is carried out with support from the EU Rural Development Fund, through Leader funding from Aktion Österbotten and the Svenska Kulturfonden.
