A ‘colour bath for babies’ course at Kuntsi
Published: 5.5.2026
What is an art workshop for families with babies like in a museum setting? The Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art will organise an Experiential Colour Workshop for Babies starting in May.
The Experiential Colour Workshop for Babies, also known as ‘a colour bath®’, is a visual arts workshop in which babies and their parents explore colours, light and a wide range of materials using all their senses. The workshop begins with time to observe and experiment, and gradually moves towards hands-on creating – always taking the child’s stage of development into account. The method was developed by the Kruunupää Centre for Children’s Culture in Pori, and the programme began in 2003 as a collaboration between Kruunupää and the Pori Art Museum.
The course is led by artist and colour workshop instructor® Ann‑Maj Granstubb. The workshops will take place in the Studio workshop space at Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art. The workshop groups are bilingual (Finnish and Swedish).
– The City of Vaasa is now offering families the opportunity to take part in colour baths for babies for the third time. Last year, colour bath sessions formed part of Baby Puddle in the spring and were offered as a structured course in the autumn. This time, the course includes fours workshops, giving participants more time to enjoy making art, says Jenni Niemi, Head of Culture Services.
