A summer of experiences for all ages at Vaasa’s museums

This summer, the Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art, the Ostrobothnian Museum, and the Museum of Old Vaasa offer exhibitions, guided tours, activities for children, and events for visitors of all ages. The Tikanoja Art Museum will remain closed throughout the summer while extensive renovation works are carried out.
Exhibitions:
Museum of Old Vaasa (open Wed–Sat, 10–17)
- 250 years or Vaasa Court of Appeal, open 7 May–29 August
- Guided tours on 27 June, 25 July, and 29 August at 13 in Swedish and at 14 in Finnish
The Ostrobothnian Museum (open Wed-Sun, 10–17)
- nabbteeri: The Scavengers’ Garden, open 9 May–20 September
- Permanent exhibitions: Treasures from Near and Beyond the Seas, Vaasa400, Terranova, Coin and Medal Collection, and The Silver Room
- Guided tours on Sundays from 14 June to 26 July, on the hour from 12–15.
Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art (open Wed–Sat, 10–17)
- Apocalypse No/w Marcus Lerviks & Florian Tuercke, open 16 May–29 August
- Guided tours 6 June, 4 July, and 1 August at 13 in Swedish and at 14 in Finnish
Tikanoja Art Museum
- Closed for renovation from 24 May to 10 October 2026. The façade and windows of the Tikanoja Art Museum will be renovated and repainted during summer 2026.
Events at museums this summer
Wednesday 10 June, 16–17
Sakari Laukkanen, President of the Court of Appeal, will give a lecture in the auditorium of the Ostrobothnian Museum entitled ‘The establishment of the Courts of Appeal, 1614–2014. Why were the courts of appeal established, and what impact have they had?’ The lecture is held in connection with the exhibition 250 years of the Vaasa Court of Appeal. Visitors can also learn more about the topic in the exhibition at the Museum of Old Vaasa.
Friday 10 July
To celebrate Finnish Visual Arts Day and the birthday of Helene Schjerfbeck, the Ostrobothnian Museum will offer guided tours of Schjerfbeck’s works at 13 in Swedish and at 14 in Finnish.
Summer artists and programme for children
Children’s days will be held on Thursdays in June and July, featuring hands-on workshops from 11–15.
As part of the children’s summer programme, summer artists employed by the City of Vaasa will perform at the museums on Thursdays 11, 18 and 25 June.

Events in August
Thursday 13 August: Night of the Arts
- The Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art and the Ostrobothnian Museum are open from 15–21. Free admission.
Sunday 16 August: Old Vaasa Day
- Old Vaasa Day & the Museum of Old Vaasa will be open from 11–18. Guided tours of the 250 years of Vaasa Court of Appeal exhibition on the hour from 11–15.
Saturday 22 August: Lecture
- A lecture held in connection with the exhibition 250 years of Vaasa Court of Appeal.
Thursday 27 August: Baltic Sea Day
- My Baltic Sea. Join the Baltic Sea Day open workshop at the Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art from 11–15 and create your own interpretation of the Baltic Sea through images and words.
