Applications for communal volunteer work grants are now open

Published: 13.5.2026

The City of Vaasa offers associations and clubs the opportunity to help care for the green spaces in their own neighbourhoods and to receive a communal volunteer work grant (talkooavustus) for the work they do.

Associations and clubs are invited to take part in removing Himalayan balsam from city-owned green spaces and nearby woodlands from 1 June – 7 August 2026. A communal volunteer work grant is paid for the work carried out, depending on the size of the target site. Associations and clubs can either suggest an area to be cleared or choose a site from those proposed by the city.

More detailed guidance will be provided when the work begins. The association must have valid communal volunteer work insurance (talkoovakuutus) in place. Interested associations and clubs are kindly asked to get in touch by email at vieraslajit@vaasa.fi by 31 May.

Grants for improving the urban environment

Communal volunteer work grants are also available for improving the urban environment. Only registered associations, such as neighbourhood and residents’ associations, are eligible for grants.

Interested associations are invited to submit an informal application by 29 May at 12 by email to puistot@vaasa.fi, or deliver it directly to Rantamaantie 5, 65350 Vaasa. Please write ‘Talkooavustukset’ on the envelope.
