Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel to Visit Vaasa

– The Court of Appeal’s historic anniversary is such an important event that we decided to reach out to the Swedish Royal House and invite a representative to the day of celebration. We’re truly honored that the Crown Princess and Prince Daniel accepted our invitation, says Court of Appeal President Sakari Laukkanen.

– The City of Vaasa will proudly show the royals how the city has developed over four centuries and is on its way to becoming the Nordic energy capital, says Mayor Tomas Häyry.

Vaasa Court of Appeal was founded by King Gustav III in 1775 as the second court of appeal in Finland after the Åbo Court of Appeal. Its operations began on 21 August 1776 on the king’s order.

The guests will arrive at the Court of Appeal in the morning, where the visit will last about an hour. The Crown Princess will plant a tree in the Court of Appeal Park (Hovioikeudenpuisto) to commemorate the anniversary and the royal couple’s visit. At 10:30, the royal guests will walk from the Court of Appeal along Hovioikeudenpuistikko, and during the walk will have the opportunity to meet the public. After that, they will visit Wärtsilä in Vaskiluoto and its technology center for the development of carbon-neutral shipping and energy production. The visit will conclude with a lunch hosted by the City of Vaasa at the County Governor’s Residence (Maaherrantalo).

Vaasa last had a royal visit in 2006, when King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia visited the city during its 400^th anniversary.
