Excavation work at the junction of Vaasanpuistikko and Raastuvankatu from 7 September – 5 October
Published: 25.8.2026
Traffic light cabling works are being carried out at the junction of Vaasanpuistikko and Raastuvankatu between 7 September and 5 October 2026. The works may disrupt traffic, and the junction is likely to be more congested than usual.
The traffic lights at the junction will be partially out of operation during the works. The traffic lights will remain in operation during the early stages of the works, but will be switched off as the works progress.
Excavation and cable installation work will mainly be carried out during the day.
The speed limit on Vaasanpuistikko has been reduced, and at times only one lane may be open.
Alternative routes are recommended
Where possible, we recommend avoiding the junction of Vaasanpuistikko and Raastuvankatu and choosing an alternative route.
Drivers are asked to be extra cautious and to watch out for pedestrians and cyclists. Pedestrians and cyclists should also proceed with caution at the junction.
The traffic lights will be switched back on once the works are completed, no later than 5 October.
Old cables will be replaced
The traffic light cabling is being renewed because the existing cables have reached the end of their service life. In the event of a fault, the old cables have no spare conductors, meaning the traffic lights cannot be switched on.
The City of Vaasa and the contractor apologise for the inconvenience and thank the public for their understanding.
