New life for the Kuntsi terrace this summer – new entrepreneur to start during Midsummer week

The popular waterfront area in the Inner Harbour will come alive this summer, as Fondis Restaurants Oy begins operating the summer terrace of Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art. The well-known local restaurateur will manage the museum terrace services from Midsummer week of until the end of September.

The procurement conditions for the summer terrace operations were eased, as in the tendering process held in the spring to find a long-term operator, the city did not receive any offers that met the requirements of the call for tenders. As a result, the Board of Culture and Sports decided to suspend the procurement process. After this, local entrepreneurs who were interested in operating the Kuntsi terrace were invited to submit a free-form plan for how they would organise the service over the summer.

– All applicants were invited to attend individual discussions. A total of three applications were received, and of the three, Fondis met the set requirements best. The other applicants were Hockey-Team Vaasan Sport Oy and JJ KRoGEN Ab. A warm thank you to all the participating entrepreneurs, says Salme Sulander, Director of Education and Culture.

– It is great that the terrace is able to open for Midsummer and that the challenges have been resolved, so that residents can hopefully enjoy fine terrace weather for the rest of the summer, says Elina Bonelius, Museum Director.

Our aim is to further develop the Kuntsi summer terrace area, including a professional-standard kitchen and appropriate staff facilities, creating opportunities for longer-term entrepreneurship.
