New parking rules for electric scooters
Published: 10.6.2026
From 15 June 2026, electric scooters may only be parked in designated parking areas. The new rule applies in the city centre, Palosaari, Vöyrinkaupunki and Hietalahti.
Designated parking areas for e-scooters are marked with painted bays and signs. E-scooters may also be parked at charging docks. The use of charging docks is recommended, as it reduces maintenance traffic by removing the need for operators to drive around to replace batteries.
Outside the city centre, Palosaari, Vöyrinkaupunki and Hietalahti, e-scooters should be parked at the side of the street or cycle path, parallel to the kerb.
Parking is enforced
The city enforces e-scooter parking rules. An e-scooter parked outside a designated parking area may incur a €30 fee, charged to the operator, who may pass the fee on to the rider.
Designated parking areas are intended to improve safety, accessibility, and the overall organisation of the urban environment.
Parking areas will be developed and added as needed
Parking areas have been placed in locations identified by operators as the most common parking spots. In total, there are around 350 designated e-scooter parking spaces. The situation will be monitored, and parking spaces will be added or removed as needed.
For major events, temporary parking areas will be provided near the venues to ensure there is enough parking space for all e-scooters.
